Logging workouts in Fortior
How to add sets, record reps in reserve, mark warm-ups, add notes and supersets, run the rest timer, and follow a workout on the Lock Screen and Apple Watch.
How to log a workout
How do I start and finish a workout?
Open Train → Lifts and tap the play button beside a template, or tap + and choose Workout for an empty session. If your program has a next session, Today also shows Start today's workout. Pause leaves the workout running; resume it from Train → Lifts, where it appears under In progress. Tap Finish to review the summary, add session notes and an optional energy or effort rating, and choose whether to save to Apple Health or publish to Strava (once connected). Keep Going returns you to the workout.
Workout options, the three-dot button, lets you connect a heart rate sensor, add or reorder exercises, or discard the workout. Discarding deletes everything logged in it and can't be undone.
How do I add sets, weight and reps?
Each exercise card lists set rows with weight, Reps, RIR and a checkmark. Enter your numbers and tap the checkmark to log the set, which also starts the rest timer. Add set copies the last set's values forward. A planned set does not count until you complete it. While the workout is open, tap a green checkmark again to reopen a set, and tap a set's number badge to change its type or remove it.
What is reps in reserve, and is zero different from blank?
Reps in reserve (RIR) is how many more good reps you could have done. Enter 0 for a set taken to failure. Leave the field blank if you didn't track effort; it shows a dash, and Fortior keeps zero and blank apart in your history, sync and exports.
When a calculation needs a number, a blank set counts as 2 reps in reserve, never as failure, and averages leave blank sets out. That moves estimates. Fortior adds reps and RIR to get reps to failure, then averages five common formulas. For the same 100 kg (220 lb) set of 6 reps:
| RIR entered | Reps to failure | Estimated one-rep max |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 6 | about 118 kg (259 lb) |
| 2 | 8 | about 124 kg (273 lb) |
| Blank | 8, because blank counts as 2 | about 124 kg (273 lb) |
The figures weight the five formulas equally, so yours can differ slightly. See RPE and reps in reserve.
How do warm-up sets work?
Tap a set's number badge, choose Warm-up in Select Set Type, and the badge shows W. Warm-ups don't take a working-set number and are left out of strength, volume, readiness and progression calculations. Other roles, such as Top set, Back-off, Drop set and To failure, count as working sets with extra context. With Show detailed training controls on, an exercise's options can also offer Warm-up sets (Warm-up & plates on a barbell) for planning them.
Can I add notes?
Yes. Tap Add note under a set, Add exercise note on the exercise card, or use Session notes on the Finish Workout screen. If you turn on AI features, notes you save are sent with their set details so Fortior AI can tag them; see the Privacy Policy.
Does Fortior support supersets?
Yes. Tap an exercise's three-dot options button, choose Create superset, then pick the exercises to group. Grouped exercises are performed back-to-back before resting. A superset usually has two exercises; Create circuit groups two or more. You can also build them in a template, and Finish Workout offers to save the grouping for future workouts.
Rest timer, Lock Screen and Apple Watch
How does the rest timer work?
It starts when you complete a set and shows Resting with a countdown, −15, +15 and Skip. The length comes from the planned rest for that exercise (Rest after set in a template; set minutes and seconds to zero to turn it off) or a default for the exercise type. The timer follows the clock, so it keeps counting if you leave the workout screen, and Rest Complete appears when it ends. Workout summaries show how long you actually rested.
How do I see my workout on the Lock Screen?
When you start a workout on your iPhone, a Live Activity follows it on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, showing the exercise, set, target and rest countdown. Allow notifications and Live Activities for Fortior in the iPhone Settings app. It mirrors the session on your phone, so it depends on the phone and its permissions.
Can I log sets from my Apple Watch?
With a supported Apple Watch, the Fortior watch app follows the workout you start on your iPhone. It shows the exercise, set target and rest countdown, lets you adjust weight, reps and RIR, and has Complete Set, skip and repeat buttons. The watch shows weight in kilograms and needs your phone nearby. Start or resume workouts on the phone, and if the watch loses contact, check the workout on your iPhone before assuming it was saved.
Corrections and bodyweight exercises
Can I edit a past workout?
Not set by set. In this version a saved strength workout opens as a read-only summary from Train → Lifts → History, so fix mistakes before you tap Finish: change any value, reopen a set with its checkmark, or choose Keep Going on the Finish screen. If a saved workout needs correcting, tell us with Submit feedback in Settings. Saved cardio activities let you edit perceived effort or delete the activity, and Train → Cardio → Add past activity logs a session you forgot to record.
Why does a pull-up or push-up say “Bodyweight needed”?
On bodyweight exercises Fortior works out load from your current bodyweight. Log it from Today → Log → Weight, or let Apple Health supply it. Without it, reps still save, but Fortior holds back load-based strength estimates for those sets. Depending on the exercise, you enter nothing extra (Bodyweight only), added weight, or machine assistance as a positive number; more assistance means a lower estimated load. Each set keeps the bodyweight it was logged with, so later weigh-ins don't rewrite old sets. See Bodyweight strength.
In the app: open Train → Lifts, start a template or tap + → Workout, tap each set's checkmark, and tap Finish. Workout options (three dots) holds Add exercise and Discard workout.
Strength estimates are educational and based on your own logs. They are estimates, not tested maxes, and Fortior is not medical advice.
