Ask Fortior: your AI coach
Ask Fortior answers questions about your own training, food and recovery. It is off until you turn it on, and you choose which records it can read.
Its answers are built from your logs and checked against them. They are estimates, not medical advice.
Turn on Ask Fortior
Is AI on by default?
No. Hosted answers and other AI analysis stay off until you accept the in-app disclosure or deliberately tap an AI action that shows it. Until then, the Coach tab still gives you app help and summaries made on your phone.
How do I turn on Ask Fortior?
Open Settings → AI features and switch on Enable Ask Fortior + AI analysis. Read the disclosure, then choose I agree — enable AI, or I agree — enable AI and allow all my data. Hosted answers also need a signed-in account and Fortior Premium. Cloud sync can stay off.
To turn AI off, switch the same control off. Your records are not deleted.
Which company provides the AI?
Requests go through Fortior's servers to a contracted AI provider. Fortior currently uses Anthropic or OpenAI depending on the feature and server configuration, as the disclosure in Settings explains. The provider receives the request content, not your email address or Fortior account ID.
What Ask Fortior can see
What does Ask Fortior send when I ask a question?
Your question, a short recent conversation, and evidence from only the categories you allow. Your phone prepares that evidence before anything is sent. It can name the exercises you log, including custom ones. It never includes program, template or event names, and never a video, photo or other file. Fortior doesn't keep your Ask Fortior conversations as chat history across sessions.
How do I choose which data it can use?
Once AI is on, open Settings → Ask Fortior data access. Turn on Allow all data, or switch categories on one at a time: Plans and workout performance, Equipment and setup, Readiness and session feedback, Connected sleep and recovery, Activity and cardio, Nutrition, Body composition, Health Lab and bloodwork, Private notes, and Media metadata and velocity.
Only Plans and workout performance and Equipment and setup start on. A category that's off is never shared for these features, and Ask Fortior tells you when an answer could use it, with a button such as Share sleep with Fortior AI. With Nutrition on, answers can include the foods in your meals. With Private notes on, they can include short excerpts of your notes.
Do any AI features ignore those switches?
A few do, and Settings names them. While AI is on, workout notes you save are sent with their set details so Fortior AI can tag them. Weekly review summaries send that week's set counts and number of new bests. Program explanations and swap suggestions send the program with your goal, experience, equipment and constraints. A photo or screenshot is sent only when you tap an action that names AI analysis for the images you selected.
How answers are grounded and checked
Where do Ask Fortior's numbers come from?
From your records. Your phone looks up the relevant logs for each question, and Ask Fortior explains them. It doesn't set your weights, sets or reps: Fortior's own calculations do that, and Ask Fortior can only suggest a change for you to review. Under an answer, a line such as Based on your workouts and sleep opens The numbers behind this answer.
How does Fortior check an answer?
Before you see a hosted answer, Fortior compares the figures and dates in it with the records it looked up for your question. An answer that doesn't match is revised or replaced. The check lowers the chance of a wrong number. It can't promise that an answer is complete or that an interpretation is right, so open the numbers behind it when something matters. If your data has gaps, such as no sleep tracker connected, Ask Fortior is built to say so.
Can Ask Fortior change my plan or targets?
Not on its own. A change it suggests appears as a proposal you open with Review Proposal, and nothing changes until you accept it.
Is Ask Fortior medical advice?
No. Its answers are educational estimates built from what you logged, not diagnoses or treatment. If you mention pain, it is designed to suggest talking with a healthcare professional. Strength, VO₂ max, body-fat and meal-photo results are estimates, not lab or clinical measurements. Ask Fortior also has usage limits that keep hosted AI reliable. If you reach one, try again later.
Photos, video and other AI actions
What is workout video technique review?
A Premium beta that looks at a few still frames from one clip. It is not a form check, a rep-by-rep review or an injury assessment. Under Settings → Advanced training tools → Specialist tools → workout media or velocity, turn on Allow AI analysis for a clip, then tap Analyze technique and confirm. These tools appear once Training controls is set to Show detailed training controls.
Fortior sends about ten small still frames, never the video, along with the exercise, set details, camera angle and technique notes you entered. It doesn't keep the frames. The review describes what the frames show, never changes your program, and is saved with the clip on your phone.
Which AI actions send photos?
Only actions that name AI analysis and ask you to confirm: meal-photo estimates, progress photo analysis, and reading an InBody scan from one printout photo or up to three screenshots. Progress photos are sent as resized copies. A photo body-fat figure is a visual range, not a measurement. Nutrition-label recognition runs on your phone.
What Premium unlocks
Is Ask Fortior free?
Partly. When Ask Fortior is locked, the Coach tab shows Fortior Help, which answers how-to and support questions for free. Personal answers about your own data are part of Fortior Premium and need sign-in and AI turned on. See Fortior Premium for the full list. Plans and prices appear in the app.
In the app: turn AI on under Settings → AI features → Enable Ask Fortior + AI analysis. Choose what it can see under Settings → Ask Fortior data access. Ask your questions in the Coach tab.
Ask Fortior gives educational estimates based on your own logs. It is not medical advice. Talk with a qualified professional about medical questions. The Privacy Policy has the full AI data rules.
