Working with a coach
A human coach works from the training you log, but sees only what you choose to share. Every category starts off, and you can change it, or stop sharing, at any time.
This page is for athletes first. The last section covers coaches using Fortior for Coaches and Coach Workspace.
Connecting with a coach
How do I accept a coach invitation?
Open the invitation your coach sent and sign in with the verified email address or phone number that received it. Fortior then opens Review Invitation, where you pick a role, how program changes work and which categories to share. Tap Accept coach invitation, or Decline invitation. If the invitation is invalid or expired, ask your coach to send a new one.
Accepting coaching doesn't give you Premium unless the invitation says it includes it.
Can I request a coach myself?
Yes. In Human coach, find Request a human coach, enter the public Coach ID your coach shared with you, choose what to share and tap Request this coach. The request stays pending until your coach accepts. A request never includes or sponsors Premium.
Choose what your coach sees
What can my coach see by default?
Nothing. Every category starts off, including when you accept an invitation. Your coach can ask for specific categories, with an optional note, and you approve or decline each one. Nothing changes until you answer. Private Ask Fortior conversations are never shared, and cardio routes and GPS tracks are left out of coach review.
Which categories can I share?
- Plans and performance, and Completed workouts and feedback.
- Readiness, Sleep and recovery, and Activity and cardio.
- Nutrition, Body composition, and Health and lab data.
- Private training notes.
- Technique media: only workout videos you mark Visible to connected coach.
- Progress photos and Photo-based estimates, as two separate choices. Sharing a photo never shares its estimate, and sharing estimates never shares the photo.
Three abilities are separate switches too: Publish program changes, Post shared comments and Enter sets during live workouts. You can also turn on Limit shared history and pick a Share from date. Categories such as sleep, nutrition, health and photos ask you to confirm that they contain sensitive wellness data.
How do I change what my coach sees later?
Open Human coach, tap your coach, then Review or change permissions. Turn categories on or off and tap Save permission revision. When you remove a category, your coach loses it the next time their access refreshes, including any copy they had. Your coach is told when you start, change, pause or stop sharing, and how you answered a request.
A coach planning your program
Can my coach plan my program?
Only if you allow it. Turn on Publish program changes, which needs Plans and performance to be on and isn't available with a Read-only role. Your coach can then propose a first weekly program, move workouts to other days or swap in a compatible exercise, using Coach Workspace or the iPhone app.
Program changes is set to Review every program change by default. You Accept or Reject each revision under Program revisions, and you can use Revert this revision on one that was applied. The other option, Allow validated coach program changes, lets coach changes apply once they pass Fortior's checks.
Can my coach log sets for me?
Only if you turn on Enter sets during live workouts, which needs Completed workouts and feedback to be on. Sets your coach enters are marked as coach-entered. You open the same workout on your phone to record heart rate from your own strap.
Progress photo and video sharing
How does progress photo sharing work?
Your progress photos stay on your phone unless you share them. The rules:
- Progress photos and Photo-based estimates are separate switches, and both start off.
- While you share photos with any coach, Fortior keeps a copy of each in private storage that only you and the coaches you share with can open.
- A coach's access to photos or estimates stops as soon as that permission is off for them. Turning it off for every coach deletes the shared copies, and deleting your account deletes them too.
- A workout video reaches a coach only when you mark that clip Visible to connected coach, which uploads a private copy to your own Fortior storage. The coach watches it through a short-lived link, and only while Technique media is on for them. Unmarking the clip, turning Technique media off for every coach or ending the relationship ends their access. The private copy stays in your storage until you delete it.
The Privacy Policy has the full rules.
Stop sharing or revoke access
How do I pause, stop or revoke access?
Open Human coach and tap your coach. Pick the option that fits:
- Turn off single categories with Review or change permissions.
- Pause coach access, then Resume coach access when you're ready.
- Revoke coach access to end the connection's access entirely. You can also swipe a connection in the list and tap Revoke.
Fortior applies a revocation on your phone immediately and sends it to the server. Server-side access stops when it arrives, so stay online. New coach reads then fail, and coach-side caches are removed or expired. Relationship status, program revisions, comments and audit history can remain for accountability, without access to the revoked categories.
If you coach athletes
What is Fortior for Coaches?
A paid Coach membership gives you Coach mode in the iPhone app, Coach Workspace at coach.fortior.app for larger-screen work, your own personal Premium and a set number of active-athlete seats. Open Settings → Fortior for Coaches → Become a Coach, sign in, choose a tier and confirm with Apple. Plans and prices appear in the app. Once Fortior verifies the membership, choose Personal or Coach under Mode in the same section.
How do I invite an athlete?
Invite by email or phone, and optionally offer to sponsor their Premium. If delivery isn't available, Fortior gives you a one-time link to share yourself. Athletes can also request you with your public Coach ID. You see only what each athlete shares, and a Sharing updates feed tells you when they start, change or stop sharing.
In the app: open the Coach tab and tap Human coach at the top. From there you can accept an invitation, request a coach with their Coach ID, change what you share, or stop sharing.
A human coach is a separate person from Ask Fortior, and Fortior does not provide medical advice. The Privacy Policy has the full sharing rules.
