How to log food by barcode or label

How do I scan a barcode or nutrition label?

Open the Nutrition tab and tap Scan food. The camera opens in Scan Food mode, with Barcode and Food label one tap away. In Barcode mode, hold the code steady; Fortior looks it up automatically and opens serving review. In Food label mode, fill the frame with the Nutrition Facts panel. Fortior reads it on your phone, and you review every value before saving. To find a food by name, tap Search; Saved lists foods you saved.

What if the barcode isn't found?

Fortior says no matching food was found and offers three routes: scan the food's nutrition label, add the food with its barcode, or log the meal manually. Foods you save with a barcode are shared with the Fortior community (name, brand, serving and nutrition values only; your account is never shown). Offline, online lookup is unavailable but saved foods still match. If a code can't be validated, hold the full barcode steady or tap Enter barcode.

What if the label won't scan?

Keep the panel flat and sharp, avoid glare, and keep calories, serving size and nutrients readable. If Fortior reports no readable text, try better light or enter the nutrition manually. If it warns that some common label nutrients weren't recognized, check each value. A missing nutrient is unknown, not zero. Label reading works offline.

What does Search check?

Before you type, Search shows favorites and recent foods. It checks your saved and private foods, plus the online catalog when you're signed in and connected. If nothing matches, create a private food or log the meal manually.

Grams, ounces and servings

How do I switch between grams and ounces?

In serving review you choose Servings or Grams for each food; use a decimal for a partial serving. Ounces appear in one place: the optional Total food weight on a meal photo, whose unit menu starts on grams and offers ounces for kitchen scales that use them. Choose the unit before you type. If you switch after typing, your digits keep their value and take the new unit, so 8 g becomes 8 oz rather than converting. One ounce is about 28.35 grams, and these are ounces of weight, not fluid ounces. Fluids use fl oz or mL depending on your Weight setting (Pounds or Kilograms).

Saved meals, photos, water and supplements

How do I save a meal to reuse?

After you log a meal, open it from Meals and tap Save as saved meal. You can also build one from Nutrition → Library and preferences → Saved meals and recipes → New. Log a saved meal from Saved on the Log row. Swipe a meal to copy it.

How do meal photo estimates work?

Meal photo estimates are part of Fortior Premium and need you to be signed in. Plans and prices appear in the app. Tap Scan food, photograph the whole plate in good light, add up to three photos of the same meal, and tap Analyze food with AI. That tap turns on Fortior AI for the feature, and Fortior AI suggests editable foods and portions, labeled as an estimate. Review each ingredient, tap one to change its serving, and use Add More for anything missing. Entering Total food weight rescales the portions to match. Your photos are sent through Fortior's backend to its AI provider only after that tap; see the Privacy Policy. Estimates can miss portions or ingredients.

How do I log water?

Tap More under Log, then Add water. Drinks you log as foods already count toward Fluids in Daily progress, so add water only when it isn't already logged as a drink. Tap a water entry to edit it, or swipe to delete it.

How do I log supplements?

Tap Log a supplement under Supplements, or More → Log a supplement. Pick one from My supplements or the common list, scan its barcode or Supplement Facts label, or enter it manually. Check the serving, each amount and the time, then tap Log supplement. Turn on Keep in My supplements to log it with one tap next time. Fortior records what you take; it doesn't recommend supplements or amounts, so copy amounts from the label.

Targets and complete days

How do I set nutrition targets?

Open Nutrition, then Library and preferences → Targets, and tap + to add a target. Name the goal, choose which days it applies to, and enter protein, carbohydrate and fat; calories fill in automatically once all three macros are entered. Fiber and hydration have their own fields, and any field can be left blank. Daily progress then compares what you logged with your target. Targets support general planning; Fortior doesn't diagnose conditions or prescribe diets.

What does “I'm done logging today” do?

Tapping it under Food log status marks the day complete. Fortior compares only complete days with your targets, because an unconfirmed day is a partial log, not proof you ate too little. To add more, tap Reopen today's food log; adding food after confirming means confirming again.

In the app: open Nutrition → Log, then tap Scan food, Search, Saved or More. Targets and saved meals are under Library and preferences.

Nutrition figures in Fortior are estimates based on what you log and the sources you choose. They are educational and not medical advice, and Fortior does not prescribe diets or supplements.
