Getting started with Fortior
Fortior works without an account and without a connection. Here is what happens on first launch, how to switch between kg and lb, how to pick a program or start from an empty workout, and where everything lives.
First launch and accounts
What happens the first time I open Fortior?
You may see a sign-in screen first. Tap Continue without an account to skip it; you can sign in later. Fortior then runs a short setup. The first screen carries a note on recommendations, and Continue stays off until you turn on I understand. Later steps ask how much detail you want, whether to connect Apple Health (optional), a few details about you (a display name is optional, and biological sex has a Prefer not to say choice), your goal, how many days a week you train, where you train, your experience, and anything Fortior should work around. Most steps can stay at their defaults.
Do I need an account to use Fortior?
No. Fortior works without one and keeps your records on your iPhone. A free account adds optional Cloud sync backup and hosted AI answers, and online food search and meal photo estimates need you to be signed in. To sign in later, open Settings, choose Sign in or create account under Account, and continue with Apple, Google or email.
What is the “I understand” note?
It says Fortior's strength and recovery estimates are educational and based on observational data, not medical advice, and that clinical questions belong with a healthcare professional. You accept it once during setup, and a similar reminder stays in Settings.
Units, programs and detail level
How do I switch between kg and lb?
Fortior starts in pounds and miles, and setup does not ask. Open Settings, go to Units & Preferences, and choose Weight (Pounds or Kilograms) and Distance (Miles or Kilometers). Your history converts exactly. Suggested weights round to steps you can load in the unit you choose, so a suggestion can shift by one step after you switch.
Should I pick a program or start empty?
Setup lets you choose. “Build me a plan” picks a split that fits your training days, schedules it across your week and fills each day with exercises for your goal and equipment. “I'll build my own” starts you with the built-in Push Day, Pull Day and Leg Day templates to edit freely. Either way you can start an empty workout whenever you like, and nothing is locked: you can browse or rebuild programs later from Train → Program. See Programs and weight suggestions.
What do “Keep planning simple” and “Show detailed training controls” mean?
Setup asks how much detail you want. Keep planning simple gives you a recurring weekly schedule and fast workout logging. Show detailed training controls adds training cycles, detailed targets, equipment context and specialist analysis. Change it later in Settings under Training controls. Turning it off hides screens but never deletes data.
Do I have to connect Apple Health or turn on AI?
No. Apple Health is optional and Fortior's recommendations work without it; you can connect it later in Settings → Integrations. AI features stay off until you turn them on in setup or in Settings, or choose an AI action yourself. See Cardio, Apple Health and wearables and Ask Fortior.
Finding your way around
What are the five tabs?
| Tab | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Today | Your next session, Start Cardio, and quick logging for weight, nutrition, recovery and vital signs |
| Train | Program, Lifts, Cardio and Exercises |
| Nutrition | Food, drinks, supplements, saved meals and targets |
| Progress | Trends, starting on Overview, then categories such as Workouts, Strength, Cardio, Nutrition, Sleep and Recovery |
| Coach | Ask Fortior, your AI coach, and your link to a human coach if you have one |
Where are Settings?
Tap the profile icon at the top of Today, Train, Nutrition or Progress. Settings holds your units, connections, notifications, data export, Support and Submit feedback.
How do I log my first workout?
On Today, tap Start today's workout if you have a program. Otherwise open Train → Lifts and tap the play button beside a template, or tap + and choose Workout for an empty session. Enter weight, reps and reps in reserve for each set, tap its checkmark, and tap Finish at the end. Logging workouts has the details.
Offline use and your data
Does Fortior work offline?
Yes, for logging, your history and workout suggestions. Cloud sync, hosted AI answers, imports from WHOOP, Oura and Strava, and online food search need a connection. If you log offline with Cloud sync on, your changes upload the next time sync runs with a connection.
Where is my data stored?
On your iPhone. Cloud sync is optional and off by default. When you turn it on while signed in, your records are also copied to your private account so you can use them on another iPhone. See Account and Cloud sync and Privacy, export and deleting data.
In the app: tap the profile icon, then Units & Preferences, to choose kg or lb. Start an empty workout from Train → Lifts → + → Workout.
Strength and recovery estimates in Fortior are educational and based on your own logs. They are not medical advice.
